All prospective students must provide:
All applicants are required to submit English Language proficiency. Oakton does not offer English as a Second Language program of study (ESL) for F-1 students, nor does the college issue I-20 forms for ESL study. Students must prove English proficiency in at least one of the following ways:
• A TOEFL IBT score of:
68 or higher for tests taken prior to Jan 21, 2026
3.5 or higher for tests taken after Jan 21, 2026
TOEFL testing can be scheduled at Educational Testing Services, ets.org. TOEFL score reports are valid for two years. Oakton does not accept Institutional TOEFL.
• An Academic IELTS Overall Band score of 6.0 or higher. IELTS testing can be scheduled at IELTS.org. IELTS score reports are valid for two years.
• EGL 101 or its equivalency taken at a United States college or university with a grade of C or higher. Please submit an official college/university transcript to Enrollment Services at: esoperations@oakton.edu.
• High school diploma from a United States high school. Please submit an official high school transcript to Enrollment Services at: esoperations@oakton.edu.
• Alternative methods as outlined by Oakton College's English placement (listed under Writing Placement).
Note: Oakton College does not accept Duolingo test results to prove English Proficiency.F-1 students are required to enroll and complete a full course of study each fall and spring semester. A full course of study is defined as enrolling in 12 or more credits.
One class or 3 credits of online coursework may count towards a full course of study per semester.
A minimum of 9 out of 12 credits must consist of on-campus or hybrid instruction.
Summer semester is optional and does not require a full course of study nor is it subject to on-campus requirements.
Admission to Oakton does not guarantee acceptance into health programs, nor does completing all pre-requisites guarantee admission into a health program. Health programs are highly competitive and admit only a limited number of students each semester or year. F-1 Students who apply but are not selected must still maintain full-time enrollment.
International students interested in pursuing degrees in health careers are encouraged to pursue the Associate of Arts degree and explore four-year university programs for these fields, as community colleges are primarily designed and funded to serve local, tax-paying residents.
